Move It

Privacy

Last updated: November 4, 2026

The short version: Move It runs on your computers. It has no server, no accounts and no analytics. I never see your browser data, and I can't.

What Move It touches

When you ask it to, Move It reads your browser profile on one device (logins and cookies, saved passwords, extensions and their settings, bookmarks, history) and writes it into the same browser on another device, or into another browser on the same device.

Where your data goes

Your data is sealed on your device with authenticated encryption before it leaves. The sealed box goes to a place you pick: a folder synced by Google Drive, Dropbox or iCloud, a git repository, or a shared disk. Only your paired devices hold the key. The key lives in your operating system's keychain and is never sent anywhere. Your storage provider only ever stores ciphertext.

Google Drive and Dropbox

If you choose to connect Google Drive or Dropbox inside the app, Move It asks for the smallest access those services offer: on Google Drive, only files Move It created itself (drive.file); on Dropbox, only its own app folder. It uses that access only to upload, download and delete its own sealed box, when you start a move or sign in and out. The sign-in token is stored in your operating system's keychain on your device. It is never sent to me or to any server of mine. You can disconnect at any time in the app, or from your Google or Dropbox account settings.

Move It's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data from Google or Dropbox is not sold, not shared with anyone, not used for ads and not used to train AI models.

What I collect

Nothing. Move It has no telemetry, no crash reporting and no analytics. This website has no cookies and no trackers. The site host may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for a short time to keep the site running.

Deleting your data

Everything Move It makes is on your devices or in your own storage. Delete the sealed box from your folder or repository and uninstall the app, and it is gone. Move It keeps a backup before every change so you can undo; those backups stay on your device and you can delete them too.

Children

Move It is not aimed at children under 13 and collects nothing from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version goes on this page with a new date. The app's source code is public on GitHub, so you can check what it does.
